Sir Alex Ferguson probably didn’t enjoy watching his team succumb to Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League, but almost certainly didn’t expect to have to add himself to United’s ever-growing injury list.

The subs board was being passed to the fourth official before the substitution of Park Ji-sung for Anderson in the 61st minute of the tie’s first leg. Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen absent-mindedly let the board fall from his grip while handing it to fellow coach Mike Phelan and it fell straight onto the leg of a shocked and, by this stage, bruised Sir Alex.

To add further insult to injury, Ferguson was later snubbed by Channel 5 during an interview after the final whistle as they cut him off mid-flow in order to show the Steven Segal movie, Mercenary for Justice, which has an IMDB rating of 3.9 out of 10 at time of writing.
